The theme of the 2023 SCRI Conference was “Making Sport Better Together.” We know that collaboration is vital to a thriving sport system, and partnerships between researchers and sport organizations are one way to advance sport in Canada. At this year’s conference, we hosted an interactive workshop focused on Advancing Research Partnerships in Sport to promote meaningful engagement between researchers and sport organizations working in partnership, with the ultimate goal of creating mutual benefit that advances sport research and practice.
Workshop: Advancing Research Partnerships in Sport
Date: Friday October 27, 2023 from 1-4pm EDT
This interactive workshop focused on the science and practice of research partnerships in sport. Research partnership, in our definition, is any collaboration between researchers and knowledge users (such as sport administrators, coaches and athletes) that involves strategic planning, shared decision-making, knowledge exchange, and co-production through engagement in any inquiry-based activity (including research, evaluation and knowledge mobilization). This workshop was hosted and facilitated by the Sport Partnership Collective, whose mission is to promote activities that help build capacity and potential for successful research partnerships in the sport sector.
The objectives of this workshop were to:
- Educate attendees about evidence-based principles and practical strategies for engaging in meaningful research partnerships
- Equip attendees with practical tools and resources for conducting research partnerships in sport
- Offer opportunities for attendees to connect with one another about research partnerships in sport
- Facilitate knowledge exchange among attendees to co-generate insights of what works, what doesn’t work, and what’s needed when engaging in meaningful research partnerships
