Racquetball Canada – Brossard, QC, May 25, 2017 – Singles events got underway on Wednesday at the Racquetball Canada Canadian Championships being held in Brossard, QC. The tournament runs until May 27th.

Most of the top ranked open athletes had byes in the first round. The men played the round of thirty-two and the round of sixteen on Wednesday. The women played the round of sixteen. 

Top ranked Mike Green is on the hunt for his eleventh Canadian Men’s Open Singles title. A win would give him the Canadian record for the most championship singles titles. Samuel Murray of Brossard is ranked second in the tournament and with recent wins at National Team selection events, he will be looking to challenge Green. 

In women’s singles, Jennifer Saunders holds the Canadian Women’s Open Championship title record having won nine titles. Saunders would like to see that record grow. 

Montréal’s Frédérique Lambert is ranked second on the Ladies Pro Racquetball Tour and first in Canada. She won the first pro-stop on this season’s tour, giving Lambert her first pro-tour win. Lambert would like to win the championship title on home soil. 

There are several other national team and national development team athletes who have had success at the national level and could challenge Canada’s top ranked athletes for the top podium spot. 

The Canadian Championship event includes several age and skill events.  The tournament provides an excellent high performance and competition for life opportunity for Canadian athletes.  There are 110 athletes from across Canada and 10 provinces participating in the 2017 Championship event.
