Nova Scotia Keltics -The Nova Scotia Senior Men’s Keltics have completed a perfect regular season of the Eastern Canadian Super League after a 40-20 victory over the New Brunswick Spruce.

New Brunswick started the better on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Fredericton, scoring two early tries from full back Eric Duplise and fly half Ryan Lyod, the home side taking a 10-0 lead after 20 minutes. After a much-needed water break, Keltics barreled over with prop Alex Forrest holding the ball at the end of the maul and dotting down. Scott Marrison added the extras in what would be a good day for the Keltics kicker.

Before half time Canadian international Brett Johnson ran against the grain of play switching inside the Spruce defenders to take the lead which was quickly followed by Windsor Machines Mark O’Reilly to secure a 21-10 lead at the break.

Keltics, having already secured first place last weekend in their 53-40 victory of the Newfoundland Rock, rotated their squad with seven changes to the starting fifteen and handed out six debuts for the boys in blue.

In the second half, the Keltics had huge pressure in the Spruce half with both maul and scrum penalties resulting in a yellow card for the Spruce. Seif Sannad, who represented Canada U19 in March of this year, got his first senior try in his first senior start. Matthew Chediac, who will be playing for the Keltics U18 at Altantics in Truo next weekend, showed his quick feet to score midway through the second half, showing how bright the Keltics future is.

Brinn Coffey was the final scorer for the Keltics which was finished after a huge team effort going from set piece to quick hands in the backline.

The game finished in fitting youthful fashion with replacement scrumhalf Justin Maclennan becoming one of the youngest Senior Men’s Keltics in history booting the ball into touch to confirm victory.

The season now moves to finals weekend in Montreal on July 13^th with first place Nova Scotia playing the second-place central team, Quebec. While Ontario Arrows, first place central, taking on second place Atlantic team, the Newfoundland Rock.

The Eastern Canadian Super League champion will then be crowned on the following Sunday.
