[MONTREAL, QC] April 30, 2024 – The official draw for the Billie Jean King by Gainbridge Cup Finals took place today in London, United Kingdom, and the Canadian team presented by Sobeys finds itself in the top half of the draw. As one of the four seeded teams, Canada will receive a direct bye to the quarter-finals and will face the winner of the tie between Germany and Great Britain.

“Winning the Billie Jean King Cup last year for the first time in our country’s history is something we’ll never forget,” said Heidi El Tabakh, captain of the Canadian team. “However, even though we’re the defending champions, we want to continue to make history and lift that iconic trophy once again. I have extremely high hopes for our team, but we’ll have to bring our ‘A’ game with so many talented countries competing in this incredible tournament.”

The Finals will take place at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, Spain from November 12-20, 2024, one week later in the season than in previous years. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced last week that the change in dates was prompted by the extended WTA calendar. In addition to the new schedule for the Finals, the ITF unveiled a modified format, with the round-robin phase being replaced by a knockout competition.

Four first-round ties between the eight non-seeded nations will take place from November 12-14, with the winning teams joining the four seeded nations in the quarter-finals (November 15-17). The semi-finals will take place on November 18 and 19, followed by the championship tie on November 20.
