Wright and Bird set to compete at the 2017 World Champion of Champions

Bowls Canada ​- British Columbia’s Mary Wright and Alberta’s Pat Bird are off to Sydney, Australia to compete in the 15^th annual World Singles Champion of Champions, from October 30^th to November 6^th.  This world renowned competition features fifty-three contenders from twenty-three countries, held at the prestigious St. Johns Park Lawn Bowling Club. Bird and Wright won the titles of Outdoor Singles Champions in 2016 (West Vancouver, BC), which earned them the right to represent Canada at the 2017 World Champion of Champions.

 

Both athletes have had an exciting 2017 season. Wright won gold in the Mixed Pairs Championships (with Christie Graham), bronze in the fours at the National Lawn Bowling Championships, and defended her title as the Canadian Outdoor Singles champion. Bird also claimed a gold medal this year by winning the title of fours champion at the National Lawn Bowling Championships, and is fresh off the New Zealand greens after competing in the Speight’s North East Valley Invitational Singles Competition last weekend. Both Bird and Wright are currently warming up on the Sydney greens; BCB wishes good luck to both competitors!
