WomenActive-NS Announces 2016 Trendsetter Award Winners
WomenActive-NS – HALIFAX The WomenActive Trendsetter Awards’ celebration on Saturday, April 2nd was a tremendous success. The event, emceed by Eleanor Beaton, moved at an energizing pace and celebrated those who change attitudes, programs, and systems to enrich the lives of all women and girls as participants and leaders in sport and recreation. The individuals celebrated at the event are those who break down barriers, challenge the status quo, try new experiences, dare others to dream, blaze new trails, and showcase the talent that exists across Nova Scotia in order to ensure fair and equitable access and opportunities for women and girls.
The sold out event was viewed as one of the most diverse awards celebrations many had ever experienced. Guests at the event enjoyed a passionate presentation by Victor Montagliani, President of the Canadian Soccer Association and Chair of the National Organizing Committee for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, who emphasized the need for more women at all levels- and in all positions- across sport. The Jump Energy Rope Skipping Club–looking to qualify for the 2016 FISAC World Rope Skipping Championships—showcased their tremendous talent, and the awards were uniquely designed for each award winner by this year’s “featured artist” Jennifer Marlow. “We are so excited about the response to this first annual event”, says Cindy Russell, Director of WomenActive-NS. “The nominees and award winners were all tremendous people working to empower women and girls. We look forward to highlighting more of them next year. We congratulate all the award winners for being the trendsetters they are in Nova Scotia.”
