Racquetball Canada – Leamington, ON, May 1, 2017 – Competition is over at the 2017 Canadian Junior Racquetball Championships in Leamington.  

 
Several of Canada’s young racquetball athletes repeated their podium results from last year but some young new athletes also made their mark at Racquetball Canada’s annual championship. 
 
Trevor Webb of Cambridge, ON won gold in the Boy’s 18 & U Singles for the second year in a row. Webb has had a remarkable career as a junior athlete, winning his age division all but once since he began competing at 5 years of age. 
 
In the Girls 18 & U event, Alexis Iwaasa of Lethbridge, AB won gold. Iwaasa has had consistent podium finishes as a junior athlete, winning several Canadian Junior Championship titles. Iwaasa also partnered with Cassie Prentice of Macrorie, SK to win gold in the 18 & U Girls Doubles event. 
 
Sean Sauvé of Terrebonne, QC won gold in the 16 & U Boys Singles. 
 
Ian Frattinger of Macrorie and Kyle Dick of Wheatley, ON teamed up to win gold in the 16 & U Boys Doubles event. 
 
In addition to her gold medal 18 & U doubles result, Cassie Prentice of Macrorie, SK won the 16 & U Girl’s Singles event. 
 
Nathan Jauvin of Terrebonne, QC won gold in the 14 & U Boys Singles. Jauvin and Kody Boudreau of Saint-Charles Borromee won gold in the 14 & U Boys Doubles event. 
 
Juliette Parent of Saint-Jacques De Montcalm, QC won gold in the 14 & U Girls Singles. 
 
Malay Galigan of Kelowna, BC and Riley Sommerville of Langley, BC won the 14 & U Girls Doubles gold medal. 
 
Medals were awarded in boys and girls singles and doubles events in several younger age and skill categories. For the first time, the tournament featured a medal event for 14 & U beginner athletes. 
 
Athletes who earned the right to represent Canada at the 2017 International Racquetball Federation World Junior Championships in November are as follows. The final team will be confirmed at a later date.

Mark Nelson of Windsor, ON was the winner of the Sherman Greenfeld Award and Annie Fisher of Burlington, ON won the Heather Stupp Award.  These prestigous  awards are given annually to one male and female athlete, respectively, who exemplify excellence in racquetball both on and off the court while competing at the Canadian Junior Racquetball Championships.
 
Team Quebec won Provincial Points total with Team Ontario coming in second. Team British Columbia finished in third. 
 
The Canadian Junior Racquetball Championships is a unique event which provides both a development and high performance opportunity for Canada’s young racquetball athletes. Results in the 18 & U, 16 &U and 14 & U age categories will determine spots on Canada’s team for the 2017 World Junior Racquetball Championships.  The event also provides the opportunity for novice athletes to complete in a national event and for Racquetball Canada to identify athletes with potential or international competition at an elite level.
