April 26, 2024 – Dauphin, Manitoba – The 2024 Manitoba Games Host Committee in Dauphin proudly announces the upcoming reconstruction of the outdoor athletics facility at the Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School (DRCSS). Scheduled to commence towards the end of May and unveiled in time for the Manitoba Games powered by Manitoba Hydro on August 11-17, 2024, this facility is set to become a central hub for sports and community well-being in the region.

The new outdoor athletic track and field facility will replace the aging infrastructure and will feature a modern rubberized track, a versatile 100’ x 60’ multi-sport pad suitable for various athletic activities, and essential electrical upgrades. This $1.1 million project is backed by a coalition of funding partners, including the Province of Manitoba, Mountain View School Division, Sport Manitoba, and the Dauphin & District Community Foundation, ensuring its role as a lasting legacy for the community.

“The unveiling of this project marks a significant milestone in our community’s sports development,” said Taylor Schmidt, Principal of the DRCSS. “It will not only serve our students, but will also be a vital asset for the entire region, promoting physical education and competitive sports.”

The facility’s construction aligns perfectly with the timing of the 2024 Manitoba Games, providing an ideal venue for events and helping to foster a strong sports culture in Manitoba. Beyond the Games, the facility will continue to benefit the community for many years, supporting athletic and recreational activities at all levels.

Clayton Swanton, Co-Chair of the 2024 Manitoba Games Host Committee, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, “Thanks to the collaboration of supporters, this facility will not only meet the immediate needs of the 2024 Manitoba Games powered by Manitoba Hydro but also provide ongoing benefits to our community. It’s a true legacy project that will inspire active lifestyles for future generations. This sentiment resonates deeply with the tireless efforts of our volunteers, whose countless hours of dedication have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition. Without their invaluable contributions, alongside the support of our sponsors, partners, and funders, we wouldn’t have been able to leverage the significant funding required to establish another first-class facility in our region.”

As Dauphin prepares to host the 2024 Manitoba Summer Games and celebrate the completion of this facility, the excitement is building for what will surely be a landmark event in the community’s history.
