Canada Soccer – Canada Soccer has confirmed the schedule and regulations for the 2016 Sport Chek National Championships, with matches to be played this 5-10 October in four host cities and provinces. Both the schedule and regulations were approved on Friday 15 April in advance of Canada Soccer’s annual workshop featuring organising representatives from the provincial soccer associations.

All eight schedules (men’s and women’s competitions) have been published on CanadaSoccer.com/Nationals, the official site for the Sport Chek National Championships. This year’s four hosts are Moncton, New Brunswick (U-14 Cup), Lethbridge, Alberta (U-16 Cup), Vaughan, Ontario (U-18 Cup), and St. John’s, Newfoundland Labrador (Challenge Trophy and Jubilee Trophy).

“The Sport Chek National Championships allow our participants to excel at the national stage,” said Victor Montagliani, Canada Soccer President. “These competitions encourage excellence in our sport, from the youth to senior levels in amateur club soccer.”

As part of Canada Soccer’s weekend workshop from 16-17 April, organising representatives from the 2016 and 2017 venues had a chance to review requirements from facilities, marketing and sponsorship, broadcast and media, medical, and officials. The collaborative two-day workshop supports each venue’s preparations in hosting a successful 2016 Sport Chek National Championships.

Canada Soccer’s Sport Chek National Championships have served as the country’s premier amateur competition for more than 100 years, with the senior men’s competition inaugurated in 1913 and the senior women’s competition inaugurated in 1982. The Sport Chek National Championships provide a meaningful soccer experience for host cities and participating clubs, as well as the players, coaches, support staff, and officials. The annual competitions are complemented by both the Futsal Canadian Championship (since 2015) and the Amway Canadian Championship featuring Canada’s professional clubs (since 2008).
