Record-breaking Races for Victoria Tachinski
Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba – March 16, 2016 – Winnipeg’s own Victoria Tachinski just set a new Canadian record and personal best of 53.97 for youth indoor 400 metre. The 16-year-old Vincent Massey Collegiate student placed second in both the Championship 400 metre event as well as the Emerging Elite 200 metre at the 2016 New Balance Indoor Nationals this past weekend. Tachinski broke a provincial youth record in the 200 metre, running another personal best of 24.48.
“I’m very happy with my results and the training that led to it,” said Tachinski after returning from the event, which took place in New York City. “New Balance Nationals is a very talent-filled track meet that I’m glad I got to be a part of. It’s been a long indoor season, so it’s great to have ended it this way – it’s always so exciting to break records and run your best.”
This kind of exceptional performance seems to be a trend for Tachinski, who took home three gold medals earlier in March at the Boeing Indoor Classic after setting records in 400 and 800 metres in the women’s youth division.
“Victoria is an incredible talent with a bright future. We are proud of her accomplishments,” said Donna Harris, executive director of Athletics Manitoba. “Her continued improvement is a testament to all of her hard work as well as the quality training environment provided by Stride Ahead Tough Track and her coach Andy Tough.”
What’s on the horizon for the young runner? “Next up I have lots of training to prepare for outdoor season, then I will attempt to qualify for the Canadian Junior World Championships team,” Tachinski said.
