Nova Scotia Golf Association – Bedford, NS – The Nova Scotia Golf Association is pleased to announce that they have received an exemption into the Cape Breton Open, which is a stop on the 2016 MacKenzie Tour. The Cape Breton Open will be held at the Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck, NS on September 1-4, 2016. The Cape Breton Open is the only stop in Atlantic Canada for the MacKenzie Tour.

“There was no hesitation in offering the NSGA an exemption to The Cape Breton Open. The association has been instrumental in the growth of the game in our province and therefore deserves this exemption. Amateur participation in Professional events is a very important aspect to the growth of the sport. Awarding this spot in our event to the men’s amateur champion is very fitting. The  Nova Scotia Amateur is the most anticipated men’s amateur event in our calendar year. Clare golf club will be a great test as history proves. I suspect a very worthy champion will emerge. I caddied for my son Peter during the 2002 NSGA Amateur at Clare where he was runner up to one of our provinces greatest amateur champions Leon Carter. I will be watching intently to see who will triumph and carry the amateur flag to our event at Bell Bay Golf Club.” said Sandy Campbell tournament director of the Cape Breton Open

The 2016 MCT Men’s Amateur Championship will take place on July 6-9 at the Clare Golf Club in Church Point, NS. The MCT Men’s Amateur will be held at the Clare Golf Club as part of a summer long celebration of its 50th Anniversary. To add to the notoriety of the anniversary two members of the club are serving in prominent positions in amateur golf. Ernie Muise is currently the President of the Nova Scotia Golf Association, while NSGA past President, Roland Deveau is the President of Golf Canada.

“Having an amateur exemption into such high profile PGA Tour Canada Championship is certainly an amazing opportunity for our 2016 MCT Men’s Amateur Champion. From a Player Development stand point this is an amazing competitive opportunity for our top men’s amateur. Being able to compete with top professionals on MacKenzie Tour is a big opportunity.” said David Campbell, Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Golf Association.
