TTCAN – The North American Cup table tennis championships produced as promised with multiple closely contested matches on the way to the finals in both men’s and women’s competition.

On the men’s side American Feng Yijun marched through the quarter and semi finals in convincing fashion, downing Mark Medjugorac (Canada) and Sharon Alguetti  (4-0. For many he remains the favorite for this competition.

His opponent will be his Rio teammate Jha Kanak who dispensed with towo Canadians: Alexander Moran (4-1) and Jemeny Hazin (4-0), both matches closer than the game scores indicate. The Hazin encounter was the match of the tournament to that point with a series of extended rallies highlighting the footwork and tenacity of both young players.

On the women’s side the Liily Zhang clearly showed why she is the odds-on favorite beating Christian Yeung in the quarters 4-0 before downing teammate Wue Yiu by an identical score.

She will face Jiaqui Zheng (USA) for the title. Zheng looked ked very strong against Canadians Ivy Liao  (4-0) and the crowd favorite Olympian Mo Zhang (4-1).
