Baseball Canada – DELAND, Florida – The Junior National Team opened the annual Fall Instructional League Camp suffering a 20-1 loss to Stetson University at Melching Stadium. 

Owen Diodati (Niagara Falls, ON) accounted for the only Junior National Team run of the ballgame with a solo home run in the eighth inning.

-The Hatters struck for three runs in the home half of the first inning loading the bases on an error, double and walk before a free pass issued by starter Justin Thorsteinson (Langley, BC) brought in the first run of the game while a fielder’s choice and RBI ground out accounted for the other two.

-In the third, a leadoff double came around to count on a single to left field before a double brought in another run to put the Hatters up by five.

-Noah Lalonde (Toronto, ON) took over for Thorsteinson in the fourth and ran into trouble issuing a pair of walks and a hit batter while the Hatters used a pair of doubles to go up by nine.

-In the seventh, with the Hatters up 16-0, a grand slam off reliever Viktor Bergeron (Terrebonne, QC) gave them a 20- lead.

-Owen Diodati provided the lone bright spot on offence for the Junior National Team in the eighth belting a solo home run over the fence in right field.

QUICK HITS

-Diodati’s home run was one of four Junior National Team hits on the afternoon with Dasan Brown (Oakville, ON), Micah McDowell (Coldbrook, NS) and J-C Masson (Lévis, QC) collecting the others.

-Masson added a pair of stolen bases

FALL INSTRUCTS: Braves roll by juniors

BUENA VISTA, Florida – The Junior National Team suffered a 7-1 loss to a group of prospects from the Atlanta Braves organization as the Fall Instructional League camp continued today.

The teams played the bottom of the ninth inning that saw the Braves add three more runs to their total.

SCORING

-The Braves put runners on the corners in the bottom of the first thanks to a lead off walk and single off of JNT starter Keegan Pulford-Thorpe (Newmarket, ON) before an RBI ground out brought in the game’s first run.

-The Braves would add to the lead in the second taking advantage of a bases loaded to situation to score on a fielder’s choice before a successful double-steal with runners on the corners put them in front by three.

-The juniors got on the scoreboard in the third and it was Jaden Brown (Mississauga, ON) who lined a triple to right and scored when Raphaël Pelletier (Mascouche, QC) bounced out to shortstop. 

-Pulford-Thorpe came back out for the fourth inning and allowed a lead off triple that would later score on a passed ball.

-The Braves added a run in the seventh using a two-base error followed by a double to left off reliever Eli Saul (Vancouver, BC) to go up 5-1.

-Gavin Pringle (Duncan, BC) took over for Saul in the eighth with runners on first and second and two out before allowing a single to load the bases before a base-hit to right field plated two more Braves’ runs.

QUICK HITS

-Starter Keegan Pulford-Thorpe allowed just one earned run over his outing that spanned 4.2 innings. The lefthander managed four strikeouts while allowing two hits and four walks.

-After homering yesterday against Stetson University, Owen Diodati (Niagara Falls, ON) followed up with a 2-for-3 game at the plate that included a double in the second inning.

-Three of the Junior National Team’s five hits were of the extra-base variety with Dasan Brown and Jaden Brown hitting triples in addition to Diodati’s double.
