Equestrian Canada – Ottawa, ON, April 6, 2018 – Equestrian Canada (EC) extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Conrad Laurin of Laval, QC, who passed away due to cancer on April 1, 2018 at the age of 84.

Laurin was one of EC’s longest-running officials. He joined EC in 1981, and soon received his certification as a Hunter, Hunter Seat Equitation and Jumper Judge, and as a Steward in all disciplines. In 2009, Laurin brought his skills to the international stage and became an FEI 2* Jumping Steward.

Laurin was an instrumental figure in the equestrian industry on a regional level in his native Quebec, as well as at the national level. He was a familiar face in Blainville, QC, where he officiated at countless shows over several decades – starting with the 1991 Coup des Amériques de Blainville, and continuing through to the end of the 2017 season. Laurin was the go-to resource for coaches, athletes and organizers alike, and even those he spoke to for just a few minutes at a horse show have lasting memories of his warmth and kindness. An exemplary volunteer, he was always quick to offer his expertise to anyone who asked, and provided invaluable insight to EC and its programs.

“Conrad was a steadfast presence at Equestrian Canada for over three decades,” said EC CEO, Richard Mongeau. “His dedication to the hunter/jumper community was unparalleled, and his enthusiasm limitless. His absence will be sorely missed.”

Laurin is survived by his wife, Myrielle Lenden; sons, Louis, François and Dominiq; grandchildren, Valérie, Louis-Philippe, Élodie and Emily; his extended family and many friends.

The family will receive family and friends at Alfred Dallaire Memoria (2159 boul Saint-Martin Est, Laval, QC) on April 6, 2018 between 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m, as well as April 7 from 10-11 a.m. The funeral will be held on April 7 at 11 a.m. at Church Saint-Maurice de Duvernay (1961 rue Ivry, Laval, QC). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
