Ringette Canada – Winnipeg, Manitoba – April 10, 2018 – The action and excitement continued on day two of the 2018 Save-On-Foods Canadian Ringette Championships in Winnipeg as teams continued to battle for national titles in the U16, U19 as well as the National Ringette League (NRL) championship title.

In the U16 division, Rive Sud (QC), Alberta’s Zone 2, Calgary Surge, Regina Stingers and New Brunswick remain undefeated after the second day of round-robin play. Rive Sud beat Central Whitby Sharks 6-2; Zone 2 beat PEI 6-1; Calgary Surge beat the previously undefeated Nepean Ravens 5-2; Regina Stingers downed the Mississauga Mustangs 8-4 and shut out Central Alberta Sting 5-0; and New Brunswick beat Manitoba Magic 10-3. Abby Corney (Emerald Park) rose to the top of the scoring with a total of 14 points for her Regina Stingers.

In the U19 division, only two of the 18 teams remain undefeated after the second day of round-robin play finished up. Laurentides (QC) beat previously undefeated Manitoba Magic 6-5 and downed TORL Force (BC) 11-4; while the Guelph Predators beat the Mississauga Mustangs 7-1 and downed BLL (QC) 7-5. Blainville’s Mégane Fortin with Laurentides and Winnipeg’s Alana Lesperance with the Magic are tied for scoring in the U19 division with 16 points each.

In today’s NRL championship tournament play, Richmond Hill Lightning picked up two overtime wins, beating Cambridge Turbos 6-5 and downing Montreal Mission 6-5. Calgary RATH dealt Atlantic Attack their first loss of the tournament, beating them 4-3. Montreal Mission’s Maude Charbonneau (Sainte-Julie) finished day two as the leading scorer in the NRL with 14 points.

Games are taking place at the Seven Oaks Arena and BellMTS IcePlex, with finals being held at the BellMTS Place. Competition in all divisions started today and will run all week, with the finals in all three divisions taking place on Saturday, April 14 (U16 at 11:30 CDT, U19 at 13:30 CDT and NRL at 15:30 CDT). All-stars and the NRL Annual Awards will be announced at the closing ceremony on Saturday night.
