Sport Nova Scotia – HALIFAX, NS (June 2016)Bryan Hipson has been named the Sport Chek Male Individual Athlete of the Month for his results at the 2016 Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon. The fifty year-old runner from Yarmouth was the overall winner in the marathon race crossing the finish line at 2:46:39. Hipson finished third in last year’s event.

Twenty-one year-old Samantha Hall of Dartmouth has been named the Sport Chek Female Individual Athlete of the Month. A member of the Cheema Aquatic Club, the kayaker recently competed at the Piestany International Regatta in Slovakia where she captured a gold, silver and bronze medal. Hall’s triple medal performance helped lead Canada’s U23 team to a 5th place finish.

Another member of the Cheema Aquatic Club, Marshall Hughes of Waverley has been named the Sport Chek Male Team Athlete of the Month. Following a great performance at the National Sprint Trials where Hughes and his partner placed first in the Men’s K2 1000m, Hughes went on to win three gold medals at the Piestany International Regatta.

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
