Gymnastics Canada – LIBEREC, CZECH REPUBLIC (November 3, 2016) – Team Canada’s junior men’s artistic gymnasts left it all out on the floor today during the all around and team competition at the 2016 Olympic Hopes Cup in the Czech Republic to capture the gold medal.

The team of William Emard (Laval Excellence), Anthony Tawfik (Futures Gymnastics), Ioannis Chronopoulos (Futures Gymnastics), Evgeny Siminiuc (Futures Gymnastics), Jesse Tyndall (Taiso Gymnastics Club), Chris Kaji (Phoenix), and Felix Dolci (Laval Excellence) finished fin first place with a final score of 314 ahead of teams from Hungary and France.

“The competition was good today; it’s early in the year for us and a great warm up for the season,” said Markos Baikas, men’s junior and youth national team coach. “We had some higher expectations for the scoring, but are very happy with the results today and look forward to having our men compete on Saturday in the apparatus finals.”

In addition to winning the overall team title, Emard finished in first place in the all-around competition with 78.70 while Chronopoulos won a bronze medal with a score of 78.45. Rounding out the top eight were Siminiuc who finished tied for fourth place and Tawfik in sixth.

The men will compete in the apparatus finals on Saturday while the women kick off competition on Friday with the all-around and team competition.
