Freestyle Canada – Sierra Nevada, Spain, March 10, 2017 – After the aerials and moguls skiers, it is now slopestyle and halfpipe athletes’ turn to come to Sierra Nevada to cap off the FIS Freestyle Ski World Championships from March 16 to 19, 2017.

It is not until the last World Cup in Corvatsch, Switzerland, that the names of the athletes to be part of the slopestyle team for the World Championships were unveiled. On the ladies’ side, competition was extremely tight and the final ranking at the last World Cup was decisive for securing one of the four places available.
 
Here is the list of athletes who will be part of the slopestyle competition:

As for the halfpipe athletes, they ended the season this week at the World Cup in Tignes, France. Cassie Sharpe took the gold medal thanks to her new run, which she put into practice for the very first time in Bokwang. She will therefore be present at the World Championships, boosted with all the confidence this victory gives her.
 
Many will recall the last World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria, in 2015, where Cassie Sharpe had executed a memorable performance. It was then her first competition ever at these Championships, and the Comox (BC) native had taken home the silver.

Selection Process
The selection process for the athletes that are chosen to be part of the World Championship teams is two-fold. First, the FIS determines a maximum quota of four eligible athletes per gender, per event.
 
As for the selection process for slopestyle and halfpipe athletes, Freestyle Canada chooses per benchmark and according to rankings, in each of the following benchmarks:
 
#1 – Podium at X-Games in Aspen
#2 – Sum of the two (2) best eligible placings (only the final results and those that are in the first 2/3 of the group are considered) from the following 2016-2017 events:

• Copper WC-HP-USA
• Font Romeu WC-SS-FRA
• X-Games Aspen
• Mammoth WC-HP-SS-USA
• Quebec WC-SS-CAN
• Bokwang WC-HP-KOR
• Silvaplana WC-SS-SUI
• Tignes WC-HP-FRA
