Diving Canada – Ethan Pitman reaches final for sixth at diving Grand Prix
 
MADRID – Ethan Pitman of Edmonton reached the final on men’s 10-m tower and placed sixth on Friday to open the fourth stop on the FINA Grand Prix diving circuit.
 
It was a 1-2 Chinese finish as Xiaohu Tai took the gold with 462.90 points and Huang Bowen was second at 457.55. Aidan Heslop of Britain was third at 390.60.
 
Pitman opened the day placing sixth in the preliminaries with 323.70 and he was third in his semifinal heat at 338.40. His final did not go as well and he scored 279.60.
 
Gabriel Corriveau of Terrebonne, Que., started his day with eighth in the preliminaries at 294.85 and he improved to 316.30 for fourth in his semifinal heat and eighth overall. The top-three in each of the two semis advanced to the final.
 
The Chinese were also 1-2 on women’s three-metre. Yiwen Chen was first 342.90 and Xiaohui Huang second at 337.95. Brooke Schultz of the U.S. was third at 312.70.
 
Ashley McCool of Calgary, fifth last week in Italy, scored 231.00 for 11th in the preliminaries and 214.30 for 11th overall in the semifinal and did not advance.
 
Competition continues through to Sunday. Other Canadians in action this weekend will be Peter Thach Mai of Montreal and Elaena Dick of Edmonton.
