Diving – McKay and Povzner second in 3m synchro at FINA Grand Prix

GOLD COAST, Australia – World junior champions Henry McKay of Ottawa and Victor Povzner of Maple, Ont., were second on men’s three-metre synchro on Saturday at a FINA Grand Prix diving competition.

The pair also placed fifth and sixth in the individual three-metre final.

‘’We didn’t dive as best we could in the synchro event,’’ said McKay. ‘’But it was still a solid performance for our first Grand Prix and going into next year’s world championships.’’

On the individual three-metre, Kevin Chavez of Australia won the gold medal with 429.45 points with David Boudia  of the U.S. was second at 422.05 and Luxian Wu of China third at 411.75.

McKay was fifth at 358.25 and Povzner sixth at 355.50.

‘’It was a mixed performance for me,’’ said McKay. ‘’Some dives were good. I was happy with my take-offs but the entries could have been cleaner.’’

Competition ends Sunday. Mia Vallée of Beaconsfield, Que., competes in the women’s three-metre final as well as the mixed three-metre synchro with Joshua Inglis of London, Ont.
