Dedicated Vancouver Island Rugby Volunteer to be Recognized with Sport BC’s Presidents’ Award
BC Rugby – BC Rugby is pleased to announce that Andrew Spray of Victoria will be receiving Sport BC’s Presidents’ Award, presented by Sports with Balls, at the 50th Annual Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards Dinner in Vancouver on Thursday, March 10th.
The award is in recognition of Spray’s continuous and valuable efforts as a volunteer in the rugby community in BC.
Having served as Vancouver Island Rugby Union (VIRU) President from 2007 to 2014, Spray continues as a VIRU executive member and is a valued regional representative on the BC Rugby Competition Committee.
Spray has shown exceptional dedication to rugby administration, by gathering the diverse opinions from rugby clubs and members in his region and presenting them in a thorough, fair and concise manner. His thoughtful consideration of difficult and sometimes divisive issues has been constructive when revising league structure or other policies, and for this he is gained a strong reputation for reflecting Rugby’s values of respect, integrity, solidarity, passion and discipline.
“Andrew’s tireless efforts as a volunteer continue to benefit the vitality of the sport of Rugby in British Columbia and on Vancouver Island,” said BC Rugby President, Steve Cook. “In a sport where passion can sometimes lead to disagreements between clubs, Andrew’s fair and balanced approach has earned him a great deal of respect in our community.”
BC Rugby congratulates Andrew Spray on this outstanding achievement.
