Canada Basketball – TAKASKI ARENA, JAPAN (August 7, 2018) – Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team fell 88-50 to Japan in Game four of a four-game Asia Exhibition Series on Monday morning.

Miranda Ayim led the way for the red and white in the loss, scoring a team-high 16 points to go along with a pair of rebounds and assists. Shay Colley also had a strong game for Canada, scoring 11 points and securing four rebounds on the day.

Japan came out of the gate firing in the opening quarter, scoring 25 points in the opening frame and eventually securing a 46-23 lead heading into halftime.

Canada did their best to close to gap in the third quarter, cutting down on their turnovers and executing offensively, but yet another strong run in the fourth quarter from Japan would lead to the 88-50 loss.

“Tonight obviously didn’t go how we wanted it to. We got off to a slow start and a quality team like Japan is going to take advantage of that and jump on us. They got a lot of points in transition that were a result of us not getting back and I think once they got into a rhythm it was a bit of a downhill slope. I thought as the game went on, they had built a fair amount of momentum and we really struggled to find ways to break that up. Offensively, they had us out of sync and we could never really find a rhythm. Hopefully we take this as a bit of a learning opportunity for us moving forward.” – Head Coach Steve Baur
