Wheelchair Rugby Canada – (Richmond, BC – June 16) Team Canada will kick off the 2016 Canada Cup International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament with a match against hard-hitting Sweden. Tip off will begin at 7 pm today at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Whenever Canada (#1) and Sweden (#6) face off, sparks fly. Both teams play an aggressive style of defence that showcases why wheelchair rugby was originally named ‘Murderball.’

“Our goal is to start off strong against Sweden by playing good, old-fashioned Canada rugby,” said head coach Kevin Orr. “Sweden has a lot of firepower, so it will be a good match.”

Canada Cup is one of the most prestigious wheelchair rugby tournaments in the world. This year, the event is the final stop for wheelchair rugby teams before the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Team Canada is currently ranked #1 in the world for the first time in 13 years and will take on rivals from the USA, Australia, Great Britain and other top-ranking teams.
