Canada Basketball – TOWNSVILLE, AUSTRALIA (April 9, 2018) – Canada’s women’s Commonwealth Games (2-1) defeated Mozambique (0-3) 85-53 on Monday night to advance to the semifinals at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Ruth Hamblin and Daneesha Provo each recorded a team-high 13 points, while Ceejay Nofuente chipped in 12 points and a game high six assists in the victory.  Alex Kiss-Rusk added ten points and eight rebounds for Canada.

A strong start from a determined Canadian team saw them carry a 17-point advantage into the second quarter.  Despite being outscored 15-17 in the second, Canada led 43-28 at the half.  Thanks to some clutch shooting from beyond the arc, including four late three-pointers to end the third quarter, Canada led by 30 points after three quarters en route to the victory.

Canada is Pool A along with Australia (3-0), England (1-2) and Mozambique (0-3).

With the win, Canada, along with Australia, will proceed to the semifinals, while England and Mozambique will play the top two teams from Pool B – New Zealand (3-0) and Jamaica (2-1) – in the qualifying finals.
