Canada Artistic Swimming – New name for Synchro Canada
The name of the sport internationally was changed to Artistic Swimming at the FINA Congress in 2017, at the suggestion of the International Olympic Committee to better align with other artistic sports.
“It is important that the sport and the organization in Canada reflect the international development,” said Judi Enns Bradette, President, Canada Artistic Swimming. “Artistic Swimming is a more appropriate name for the sport which combines tremendous athletic capabilities, with creative, musical presentation. Synchronized swimming does not as accurately encompass all the aspects of the sport, nor is it as fitting for a sport that now includes both females and males.”
“Once the FINA decision was made we considered the implications for Canada, and then took time to discuss it with our members and stakeholders before moving forward,” said Jackie Buckingham, CEO, Canada Artistic Swimming. “With the name change solidified, we will soon be ready to launch an entire rebrand for the organization and the sport in Canada. We look forward to an even stronger brand presence in Canada allowing for a heightened awareness of our incredible athletes, our hard-working clubs and Members, and the programming opportunities that the sport offers.”
In French, the name of the organization is Natation Artistique Canada.
Canada Artistic Swimming will reveal its new brand campaign in mid August.
