Canada Soccer – Canada adds Grenada match to Caribbean tour

Canada has added an international match against Grenada as part of the upcoming Men’s EXCEL U-23 camp and Caribbean tour. The two-match tour will feature away soccer matches against the national “A” sides of Guyana on 15 May and Grenada on 18 May.

The Canada camp serves as an important step in accumulating experience for some of the nation’s young, exceptional players, all with an eye towards Canada’s Men’s National Team and the road to Russia 2018 and beyond. The squad of selected Canadian players will be announced in early May.

Both Guyana and Grenada are preparing for Carribean Cup matches in June. Guyana will face Curaçao and US Virgin Islands in Group 3 while Grenada will face Puerto Rico and Antigua & Barbuda in Group 1. These Caribbean Cup matches serve as part of the qualification route for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Just last month, Canada Soccer’s Men’s EXCEL Program produced a positive experience through an eight-day camp in Doncaster, England, with a squad of players born 1996 or later. The camp featured two international tests against England, the latter a 2:1 win for Canada’s first-ever victory against an England’s men’s team.
