Sport Nova Scotia – Bussey, Peters, Murphy and the Football Nova Scotia U15 Team

Win Sport Chek Athlete of the Month Honours

 

HALIFAX, NS (August 2016)Malcolm Bussey of Hammonds Plains has been named July’s Sport Chek Male Team Athlete of the Month. The fourteen year old recently competed at the 2016 Coupe Spalding Cup in Montreal where he was a member of the gold medal winning U15 Nova Scotia Football Team. Bussey was named MVP in the championship game and lead the tournament in both rushing yards and touchdowns.

 

Bedford sailor Corinne Peters has been named July’s Sport Chek Female Individual Athlete of the Month for her recent performance at the North American Radial Championships in Oregon. The twenty-one year old was the top female sailor overall in the Laser Radial class. Peters also won the Canadian National Championships which were held earlier in the month.

 

Twenty-seven year old Danial Murphy has been named July’s Sport Chek Male Individual Athlete of the Month. Murphy had a strong showing at the 2016 Speedo CAN-AM Para Swimming Championships in Gatineau, QC which included first place finishes in both the 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle events. The swimmer also set a new S5 Para Canadian Record in the 50m backstroke. Danial has been a member of Swimming Canada’s National Para Team for the last five years.

 

The Sport Chek Team of the Month award goes to the Football Nova Scotia U15 Team which won gold at the 2016 Coupe Spalding Cup tournament in Montreal, QC. Team Nova Scotia made history by capturing the province’s first ever gold medal at the event. Team Nova Scotia defeated Montreal Metro by a score of 39-38 in the championship game.

 

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
