Gymnastics Canada – SOFIA, BUL (May 28, 2016) – Coming off of her Canadian Championship win in Winnipeg, MB last week, Patricia Bezzoubenko of Toronto, ON missed the finals at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria on Saturday.

On Friday, Bezzoubenko competed in the Hoop and Ball events finishing in 19th and 18th place respectively.  “Obviously I had better results at the Canadian Championships,” Bezzoubenko stated following the competition, “I did my best but the level of competition here is very high.”  Bezzoubenko scored above 17 in both routines, however the top five competitors in each discipline all scored over 18 points including a top score of 19.350 in the ball event by Yana Kudryavtseva of Russia.

Cindy Huh of Vancouver, BC struggled throughout the competition including a couple mistakes and drops during her ribbon routine.  In spite of the outcome, Huh was optimistic about her performance; “I’m happy about my performance today after having to scratch in my final two routines at Canadian Championships,” she said.  “My goal was to make it through all of my routines and other than a couple mistakes, I finished them all and improved my performances since last weekend.”

Bezzoubenko scored over 17 in the clubs event but had some minor mistakes during her ribbon routine and scored 16.8.  “I had some small mistakes, but they were not very visible,” said Bezzoubenko, “now my coach and I know what to work on for our upcoming competitions including next week in Spain.”

“The level of competition at World Cups is very high,” said Huh, “only the best athletes are in attendance and it is neat to see many top athletes fighting for finals.” Both Bezzoubenko and Huh will compete at the World Cup in Guadalajara, Spain next weekend and are hoping to make some event finals.
