CIS – OTTAWA (CIS) – Hockey goaltenders Marie-Pier Chabot from the University of Montreal and Matt Murphy from the Royal Military College of Canada are the ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 10, 2016.

Chabot, a third-year administration student from Quebec City, posted a near-perfect performance in leading the Carabins to a 2-1 shootout win over archrival McGill in a battle of the No. 2 and No. 3-ranked teams in the country, Sunday in Montreal. The junior netminder, who currently leads the RSEQ conference in goals against average (0.70) and save percentage (.968), stopped 37 of 38 shots in regulation and overtime, including all 15 in the third period, before turning aside all five Martlets skaters in the shootout session, including Olympic gold medallist and RSEQ scoring leader Mélodie Daoust.

Dalhousie basketball player Tessa Stammberger, Toronto swimmer Paige Schultz and Winnipeg basketball player Megan Noonan were also nominated for the women’s award.

Murphy, an MBA student from Rothesay, N.B., blocked 71 of 73 shots to lead the Paladins – who had only one win in 19 league games going into the weekend series – to a surprising two-game road sweep against Laurentian in Sudbury. The 6-foot, 185-pound goalie, who started his university career with Windsor before transferring to RMC this season, opened the series on Saturday with a 42-save effort, including 21 in the third period, as the Paladins prevailed 3-1 despite being outshot 43-28 overall. Murphy resumed his domination on Sunday in a narrow 2-1 victory, making 29 saves in regulation and extra time before stopping both Voyageurs attackers in the sudden-death shootout.
