Sport Calgary  – All Sport One Day is a Gateway to a Love of Sport and Physical Activity: One Week Left to Register

CALGARY, Alberta — Sport Calgary’s annual All Sport One Day is a free day of sport discovery for children ages 6 to 12. The event promotes the value of multi-sport participation (over early specialization), the importance of physical literacy and activity, and serves as a showcase for the tremendous diversity of sport offerings in our city.

ALL SPORT ONE DAY
Saturday, June 18, 2016
10:00am to 2:00pm
14 Facilities across Calgary

Sport Calgary partners with 70 sport organizations and 14 facilities to offer a wide range of activities, including many unusual (but very, very fun) sport activities like Gaelic football, wheelchair basketball, futsal, winterguard, and more.

In addition to the health and wellness benefits, participation in sport builds physical literacy skills (balance, coordination, stamina, timing, etc.) and teamwork. All Sport One Day also offers a unique opportunity to build empathy through sports like goal ball, which is played while blindfolded; or wheelchair basketball, which is a fun challenge and welcomes participation from able-bodied players.

All Sport One Day offers more traditional sport activities, like baseball and rugby, alongside more niche (but growing) sports like cricket, ultimate, netball, and “Aussie Rules” football. Children are permitted to choose any two activities to participate in, giving them a taste of the sport and an introductory lesson in gameplay. All Sport One Day helps connect parents both to sport organizations and to the sport and recreation facilities in their area.

There’s one week left to register for this year’s All Sport One Day, and Sport Calgary wants as many children as possible to be able to participate!
