2017 World Championships – Coaches reflect on the draw
Water Polo Canada – (Ottawa, February 28, 2017) – The official draw for the 2017 World Championships was held by the Organizing Committee and FINA representatives last Friday in Budapest. This marks the beginning of a new period for the Water Polo Canada Men’s and Women’s National team as they prepare for the 2017 competition with better knowledge of their group composition and opponents.
After the draw, the groups are as followed;

Despite the tough draw, Women’s National Team Head Coach Pavlides is confident his team will be able to reach its objective for this tournament “Our group is quite difficult, but I believe that if we win one of the two top spots of the group, we will have a great chance for the top 8, which is our main target for this World Championship” he mentioned after the draw.
Head Coach of the Men’s team, Giuseppe Porzio attended the official draw “The draw was definitely positive, we have a good chance to advance the next stage and from there on, it’s clear that the game will the harder. We must work hard in preparation for this tournament. Montenegro is undoubtedly the team to beat, we know Brazil, but Kazakhstan remains an unpredictable team. Overall, this tournament is a good opportunity, especially for our young players to grow and gain experience: for many of them, it will be their first appearance at a World Championship” he said.
Additionally, Water Polo Canada is pleased to announce the staff that will lead the Men and Women National teams to the 17th FINA World Championships take will place July 14th -30th 2017, in Budapest, Hungary.

In preparation for the tournament, the Canadian National Teams will be training in Europe in June & July 2017. Prior to that, the World League Competitions represent a great opportunity for the National teams to measure themselves against the other nations.
