Bowls Canada Boulingrin – Lawn bowlers from all across Canada took to the greens today at the Commonwealth Lawn Bowling Club in Edmonton, Alberta for the 2016 Canadian Championships.

The first day of this weeklong national championship couldn’t have started off any better. It was a beautiful day to be on the greens. “The greens are excellent with nice draws on both sides”, stated Ryan Stadnyk member of the Ontario West Men’s triples team. “They are in great shape, roughly running 13 seconds.”

The volunteers of the Commonwealth Lawn Bowling Club did a tremendous job throughout the day. The opening ceremonies featured the St. David’s Welsh Male Voice choir who song O’ Canada and CTV Edmonton was on hand to capture the parade of athletes and ceremonial first bowl. “We could not have asked for a better opening day”, said Wendy Berg, Chair of the Host Organizing Committee. “We are looking forward to a great week of bowls”.

The strong play and deep rooted camaraderie exhibited by all players indicates that the 2016 Canadian Lawn Bowls Championships will be an excellent competition. Day 2 play begins Tuesday August 16th at 9:00 am local time. Spectators are welcome to come out and enjoy the spectacular action on the greens at the Commonwealth Lawn Bowling Club.
