Head Coach – Women’s Basketball
Background
Since joining the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) conferences in 1994, the Camosun College Chargers have competed in over 100 national and provincial championships with over 50 medal winning finishes in basketball and volleyball.
Working in close collaboration with the Manager, Athletics & Student Life the Head Coach facilitates the development and success of Camosun’s varsity intercollegiate athletic program.
Expectations
- High degree of character, integrity, passion, and commitment to learning and developmental environments
- Excellent communicator with strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Highly knowledgeable in coaching delivery through technical, tactical, physical, and psychological elements in a competitive performance environment
- Conducts the program within the rules and regulations of the PACWEST, the CCAA and Camosun College policies and guidelines
- Organizes and implements a recruiting program to attract outstanding student-athletes
- Plans, schedules, and delivers an effective yearly training plan
- Attends all practices, games, and team functions scheduled during the year, this includes evenings and weekends
- Attends and participates in Chargers Athlete Orientation (early September) and the year-end awards ceremony (early – mid April) plus, as required any staff and departmental meetings
- Assigns assistant coaches and team staff their primary duties and responsibilities
- Assists the Athletic department in monitoring academic progress of athletes
- Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion
Educational Requirements
Ideally the successful candidate will have, or is on the pathway to full NCCP Competition Development Certification, or equivalent advanced coaching education
