The Fitness and Performance Senior Coach will work collaboratively within the Fitness and Performance department to provide services for the Intercollegiate Varsity Blues team and Recreational Programs. Supporting multiple Varsity Blues teams, the incumbent will be responsible for developing programming and coaching conducive to supporting student athletes in developing their full potential. The incumbent will support recreational programming through coaching, program evaluation, and coach mentorship. This position will also contribute to facility and equipment maintenance and departmental progression. 

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in kinesiology, health science, or related field or combination of equivalent experience. 
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) or equivalent required.
  • Master’s degree in sport science field is an asset
  • NCCP Olympic Weightlifting – Intro to Competition – Trained certification is an asset.
  • First Aid, CPR-C, and AED certified.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a relevant working environment. Preferably within a college and/ or University setting
  • Practical experience designing and implementing Strength and Conditioning programming within a University/College environment
  • Practical experience planning and conducting individual and/or group/team testing
  • Practical experience in coaching basic mechanics of sprinting.
  • Experience working within an Integrated Support Team

  • Sound knowledge of strength and conditioning programming for a university population and ability to translate into practice

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

GENERAL

Under the direction of the Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) National Team Director but working very closely with all Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) high performance program staff, and working in conjunction with key national team athletes, technical committees, coaches and officials, the RG Senior Program Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the daily high performance and national level programming requirements for the RG discipline. Specifically, this individual will work as part of the overall high performance professional staff “team” at Gymnastics Canada in ensuring that the logistical, technical, and planning components for national competitions, national team domestic and international training and competition requirements for RG are well served. This individual will work within the RG discipline but within the “team” environment that has been developed within GymCan’s professional staff in the high performance department.

As part of the high performance professional staff “team”, the RG Senior Program Coordinator works within the GymCan policies and procedures and receives direction and acts within programming protocol that is aligned with the GymCan strategic and operational plan. The RG Senior Program Coordinator demonstrates strong logistical and operational planning skills,

detailed and effective communication and financial management abilities, and exhibits strong inter-personal skills in their daily work environment.

At the direction of the National Team Director – RG, the RG Senior Program Coordinator may represent GymCan in dealings with Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, Commonwealth Games Canada, Canada Games, U Sport, the Fédération International de Gymnastique (FIG), the Pan American Gymnastics Union (PAGU), sponsors/partners, competition organizing committees and other provincial, national, or international service organisations in relation to national team programming needs. The RG Senior Program Coordinator shall work daily with national staff and the Director of Finance and Administration to manage budgets and reporting requirements as they relate to the scope of work assigned.

Position Summary 

The operations coordinator contributes to the operational efficiency of the organization through the coordination of various administrative functions.  There are specific responsibilities in the areas of publication production, maintenance of policies and records, management of merchandise distribution, and meeting coordination.
