Availability of Short Track Speed Skating athletes ahead of the pre-Olympic 2016-2017 season
Speed Skating Canada – The Fall World Cup Selections will be held September 23-25 in Montreal
Montreal, September 14, 2016 – Speed Skating Canada is inviting media representatives to come and meet the Short Track National Team members Wednesday morning, September 21 (see schedule below), at Maurice-Richard Arena (2800 Viau St.), a few days prior to the start of the 2016-2017 season which will kick off with the Fall World Cup Selections, September 23-25 at the Maurice-Richard Arena in Montreal.
The 16 best male and female skaters who will take part in the Fall World Cup Selections will vye for a spot on the six-man and six-woman teams that will take part in the first four World Cups of the 2016-2017 season, including the first one to be held at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, November 4-6. The National Team members will launch this new season, the last one prior to the one leading up to the 2018 Olympic Games, following their 54 medals won last year, including nine at the World Championships, both the highest tally since at least 1999-2000. The also won 44 World Cup medals, the best since 2001-2002, and a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships.
