Alpin Canada Alpin – Calgary, Alta. (January 26, 2017) – It was super-G day at the World Para-Alpine Skiing Championships in Tarvisio (ITA), and

the medals continued rolling in. Mac Marcoux, the 19-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, went back-to-back with World Para-

Alpine Skiing Championship titles, winning today’s super-G race. This is the second gold medal for Marcoux and his guide,

Jack Leitch, in as many days in the visually impaired category.

“I’m super stoked on today,” said Marcoux. “It was such a good day and a super fun course. It was nice and fast for super-

G and pretty straight. I want to give a huge shout out to Jack for his dedication and perservance as my guide. I’m so

pumped to have him on my team!”

“It’s an unreal feeling to stand up on the podium with Mac as both the downhill and super-G World Champions!” said

Leitch. “I couldn’t even have imagined this success when I signed up to be his guide. We are both feeling confident

heading into the rest of the events here in Tarvisio!”

Also finding the podium for the second day in a row was Calgary’s Alana Ramsay who took silver in today’s super-G in the

standing category. The 22-year-old is the current slalom and super combined World Cup alpine leader, and can now add

super-G silver medallist to her accomplishments.

“Today was another good day!” said Ramsay. “The course was an awesome set. It was pretty straight so it was easy to

push the line and push the limits. I really felt the need for speed today. I’m really looking forward to the super combined

on Saturday and the technical races to come afterwards!”

Toronto’s Erin Latimer was also in the women’s standing category and finished with a eighth-place result.

In the men’s standing category, Kirk Schornstein, who finished with a silver medal in yesterday’s downhill, narrowly

missed out on a podium finish and ended the day with a fourth-place result, just 1.77 back from the lead-time. Alexis

Guimond from Gatineau had a top-ten finish in today’s super-G, finishing in seventh-place. Braydon Luscombe from

Duncan, B.C. tied for an 11th-place finish.

Notably missing from the past two days of racing was Calgary’s Kurt Oatway, a dominant presence on the speed circuit in

the sitting category. In the second day of downhill training, Oatway made an unfortunate mistake causing him to crash

into the netting. The crash left him with a break to the radius in his left arm. Oatway will be sidelined for the rest of the

season.

Tomorrow the team will take a much-needed rest day and recovery before racing a super combined on Saturday.
