Skate Canada – ISU announces line-up for Grand Prix events |
OTTAWA, ON: The International Skating Union (ISU) has announced the line-ups for the six 2016 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events. Canada will host the second stop on the circuit, the 2016 Skate Canada International in Mississauga, Ont., from October 27-30, 2016 at the Hershey Centre. The line-up in Mississauga features Canadian favourites including Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford, Patrick Chan, and Alaine Chartrand. Fans will also get to witness the homecoming of Olympic ice dance champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir; they will make their return to competition after taking a two-year hiatus. They will be joined by various current and former world champions including Evgenia Medvedeva of Russia, Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva of Russia, and Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte of Italy. “The line-up for Skate Canada International in Mississauga this year could not be any stronger. The deck is stacked with world and Olympic medallists and we are excited to be bringing such a competitive event to the Hershey Centre,” said Dan Thompson, CEO, Skate Canada. Skate Canada International is the second competition in the annual series. The other events take place in the United States (Skate America), Russia (Rostelecom Cup), France (Trophée Eric Bompard), China (Cup of China) and Japan (NHK Trophy). Each skater/team can be assigned a maximum of two events. Skaters are awarded points based on their placements at their events. The top six from each discipline (men’s, ladies, pair and ice dance) qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final to be held in Marseille, France from December 8-11, 2016.
