True Sport Foundation – (Ottawa, Ontario – June 22, 2017) – The True Sport Foundation is pleased to announce the 2017 sport study scholarship recipients from the Lyle Makosky Values and Ethics in Sport Fund.  The awards, in the amount of $2,000 each, have been awarded to Julie-Anne Staehli for her undergraduate project, “The Blueprint for Student-Athlete Success: Understanding the Team Conditions Implemented by High-Performance Coaches” and Wendy MacGregor for her master’s project, “How can we use existing Canadian law to promote effective prevention, response and remedy in cases of sexual exploitation of athletes in sport?”

The Lyle Makosky Values and Ethics in Sport Fund is a national endowment fund established by life-long leader in sport, Lyle Makosky. The sport study scholarship program provides annual financial awards to support the study of current values- and ethics-based challenges, and related policies affecting (non-professional) Canadian sport, with the program being managed, and award winners selected by, the True Sport Foundation.

“I am truly impressed by the sophistication and scope of the study topics that will be examined by the two award recipients and by the evident potential of the study results to contribute useful learning and applied lessons to real challenges in Canadian Sport,” noted Lyle Makosky on the announcement.

“Congratulations to Julie-Anne and Wendy for earning this year’s Lyle Makosky Values and Ethics in Sport Fund scholarship,” said Karri Dawson, Executive Director of the True Sport Foundation. “Their projects examine important topics in Canadian sport and will no doubt stimulate further conversations surrounding values-based and ethical sport. We are pleased to support their studies in this field and look forward to their contributions to sport in Canada.”

Julie-Anne Staehli is currently completing her master’s degree in Sports Psychology in the School of Health and Kinesiology at Queen’s University. Wendy MacGregor is completing her master’s in Law at Dalhousie University, Schulich School of Law. Both are active in the Canadian sport community.
