Coaching Association of Canada – Calgary (November 2, 2017) – More than 500 attendees have converged in Calgary for the opening of the 2017 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference (#SLS17), Canada’s conference for coaches, researchers, sport executives, and administrators. Organized by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), it runs from November 2-4 at the Westin Calgary.

“Calgary is a great host city for the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference and is recognized as a leader in sport hosting,” said Lorraine Lafrenière, Chief Executive Officer of the CAC. “At this year’s conference, Canada’s sport and community leaders will have the opportunity to reflect on the past year while looking forward with innovative ideas.”

This year’s conference attendees will welcome digitally savvy and forward-thinking speakers who will ignite deeper conversation about cultivating disruption in a fast-paced era, and how it comes into play for Canada’s sport community. The 2017 conference theme will examine how to harness and optimize these opportunities to drive leadership growth and influence positive change in sport.

The speakers presenting at this year’s conference come from varied backgrounds and experience. The opening keynote speaker is best-selling author, Jim Harris, who is one of North America’s foremost management consultants and thinkers on change and leadership. Other highlights include presentations from Train Ugly Founder Trevor Ragan, Disruptive Leadership Expert Judy Riege, as well as Amazing Race Canada Contestants Julie Taylor and Lowell Taylor, who is also a para-cyclist. Canada’s top coaches will also be celebrated at the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Awards Gala on Friday, November 3rd, at the Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire.

#SLS17 will host more than 500 delegates over three days and is presented in partnership with Petro-Canada, a Suncor business, which has been supporting Canadian athletes, coaches, and their families for more than 25 years. “We are always excited for this conference as it brings our sport community leaders together from across Canada,” said Kim von Eicken, general manager, marketing services, Suncor.  “It’s also a great chance to recognize and celebrate this year’s award recipients.”

#SLS17 kicks off today with an inspiring keynote from Jim Harris on Thriving in the Era of Disruptive Innovation.
