Rowing Canada Aviron Announces Iain Brambell as High Performance Director
Rowing Canada Aviron – VICTORIA, BC – Monday, February 27, 2017 – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) is pleased to announce today the appointment of Iain Brambell as High Performance Director. He will begin his role on March 15, 2017.
“I’m thrilled to be joining RCA in the role of High Performance Director,” said Brambell. “This is an incredible privilege to return to Rowing Canada to reaffirm the high performance program towards success in Tokyo 2020 and beyond. I am looking forward to working with our athletes, coaches and staff to continue Canada’s tradition of excellence both on and off the water.”
As a 2008 Olympic rowing bronze medallist, Brambell has been actively engaged in sport from the grassroots to the Olympic and Paralympic Games level, throughout his career as an athlete, volunteer and administrator. He brings to RCA a multitude of experiences as a leader in high performance through his work domestically with multiple national sport organizations (NSOs) including Athletics Canada and Cycling Canada, as well as his international experience with the Australian Sports Commission where he worked closely with Rowing Australia.
Most recently, Brambell supported NSOs as a High Performance Advisor at Own The Podium in the development and delivery of their respective high performance planning and programs. This included advising NSOs on how to best position their organization for success through the strategic recruitment of staff and effectively prioritizing resources, among other tactics.
“We’re very excited to announce Iain as RCA’s High Performance Director,” said Terry Dillon, chief executive officer, RCA. “Iain brings to RCA an exceptional depth of understanding to the high performance program, from the perspective as both an athlete and an administrator. The breadth of his experiences, from his work internationally to his experience with other NSOs, will best serve our national team as they train and compete during this quadrennial.”
Brambell represented Canada at eight World Rowing Championships, winning a bronze medal in 2002 with the Lightweight Men’s Four. Beginning in 2000, he competed at three consecutive Olympic Games and is a two-time Pan American Games silver medallist.
Brambell has also committed his time to supporting athlete interests on the Boards and Commissions of the Canadian Olympic Committee, FISA, Athletes CAN, PacificSport National Sport Centre and Rowing Canada Aviron.
