Peliwo falls in the doubles final
Montréal, March 1, 2020 — For a second straight week, World No.191 Maxime Cressy of the US went head-to-head against World No.206 Arthur Rinderknech of France at a Canadian Challenger. After colliding in the final of the Drummondville National Bank Challenger last week, the two ran into each other again today at the Calgary National Bank Challenge. The second edition of the $81 240 tournament was held this week at the OSTEN & VICTOR Alberta Tennis Centre in Calgary.
After losing to Cressy just a week ago, Rinderknech got his revenge with a three-set win in front of a sold-out crowd (3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4).
Cressy broke Rinderknech early on to gain a 3-0 lead. The break was enough to secure the first set for the American, who still had to fight off four break points. Rinderknech got off to a stronger start in the second. Though he wasn’t able to capitalize on his six chances to break, he still managed to win the tiebreak and force a third set. Keeping the momentum going in the final act, he broke his opponent and claimed victory.
Paris-born Rinderknech, who played on the NCAA circuit, was competing in his third final of the season. The 24-year-old triumphed at a Challenger in France a few weeks ago and at the Drummondville Challenger last week.
Peliwo falls in the doubles final
In doubles, Canadian Filip Peliwo (Vancouver, BC) and Australian Harry Bourchier faced a two-set defeat at the hands of Max Schnur and Nathan Pasha of the US (7-6(4), 6-3).
The Calgary National Bank Challenger is part of a series of tournaments sponsored by National Bank that includes a mixed draw event in Granby, two men’s Challengers in Drummondville and Winnipeg and a women’s Challenger in Saguenay.
