Tennis Canada – Raonic in same quarter as Nadal at US Open, will play first match against Dustin Brown
Bouchard to open against Siniakova, Pospisil to face a qualifier

Toronto, August 26, 2016 – Canadians Milos Raonic, Eugenie Bouchard, and Vasek Pospisil are gearing up for the final Grand Slam of the season, as the official draws for the US Open singles events were conducted in New York on Friday.

Competing in his first major as a Grand Slam finalist, Raonic will open his campaign against German Dustin Brown, currently ranked world No. 87. It will be their first meeting. Seeded No. 5 in New York, Raonic is in the same quarter as Rafael Nadal and same half as Novak Djokovic. En route to a potential quarter-final meeting with 14-time Slam champion Nadal, Raonic’s toughest test could be Gael Monfils in the fourth round, who he lost to at Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Toronto a few weeks ago. The 2016 Wimbledon runner-up will be looking to advance past the round of 16 at the US Open for the first time.

Also in the men’s draw is Pospisil, who received a positive draw as he will face a qualifier in the first round. Qualifiers will be placed in the draw at the conclusion of the qualifying tournament on Friday evening. If Pospisil, who is down to world No. 123 in the rankings, advances past his opener he could take on world No. 25 Kevin Anderson of South Africa in round two.  

In the women’s tournament, Eugenie Bouchard will open her tournament against world No. 73 Katerina Siniakova. Bouchard, who has made the fourth round at the US Open the past two seasons, has never before faced the 20-year-old from Czech Republic. Currently ranked No. 40, Bouchard could then take on Pauline Parmentier or Caroline Garcia in the second round. The highest-ranked player in her section is No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska, who she could meet in the round of 32.
