Canada Soccer – Canada Soccer’s bright, young football talent is on display at the 2017 Canada Games Women’s Soccer Tournament from 29 July to 3 August in Winnipeg, Manitoba. More than 200 teenagers are competing in the 28-match showcase, including 47 players that have already featured in Canada Soccer’s national youth program from the U-15 to U-20 age groups.

The 2017 Canada Summer Games runs from 28 July to 13 August, with the Women’s Soccer Tournament in the first week and the Men’s Soccer Tournament in the second week. Every soccer match will be broadcast on TSN, RDS, or CanadaGamesTV.ca. Fans are encouraged to follow the Canada Games using the #CGSoccer hashtag across all of Canada Soccer’s digital channels including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

The Women’s Soccer Tournament again features 12 provincial and territorial select teams featuring 18 players each. Following the initial group phase (four groups of three teams), the teams will play through to the placement and medal matches on 3 August. The competition provides young players with another opportunity to test themselves against some of the best young talent in Canada.

More than 50% of this year’s players have competed in previous Canada Soccer youth competitions at the club level, while more than one third have been part of the Canada Soccer Regional EXCEL Program. From that group, 47 players have benefitted from 2,434 days in Canada Soccer’s national youth program, including Teni Akindoju (Nova Scotia), Nahida Baalbaki and Anyssa Ibrahim (Québec), Samantha Chang (Ontario), and Julia Grosso, Emma Regan, and Caitlin Shaw (British Columbia).

This year marks the seventh edition of the Canada Games Women’s Soccer Tournament since 1993. From past editions, 29 Canada Games alumni have represented Canada at the FIFA Women’s World Cup or Women’s Olympic Football Tournament. From that group, 16 have won a CONCACAF championship and 13 have won an Olympic medal, including two-time CONCACAF champion Karina LeBlanc and two-time Olympic bronze medal winners Diana Matheson, Desiree Scott, and Rhian Wilkinson.
