Alpine Canada – Calgary, Alta. (March 2, 2016) – Two members of the Canadian Para Alpine Ski Team capture the top honour in the para alpine downhill events this season. Calgary, Alta.’s Kurt Oatway and Sault Ste. Marie’s Mac Marcoux win this season’s downhill Crystal Globe in the sitting and visually impaired categories.

These incredible victories come after a pair of downhill races yesterday and today, in which Oatway’s and Marcoux’s results helped to secure the Crystal Globe award.

In yesterday’s downhill race, Oatway secured a second-place finish, followed by a first-place finish in today’s downhill. Oatway won 3 of the 4 downhills this season.

“Today’s track was a little softer making it bumpier but I skied to my abilities,” said Oatway of today’s winning run. “Winning the downhill Crystal Globe is a massive improvement and I’m very happy with it. The competition here has been great and I’m looking forward to the battle for the Overall Crystal Globe in the next two days.”

Marcoux, guided by his brother, BJ Marcoux, finished off the season’s downhill series with a pair of silver medals in back-to-back races, securing the downhill Crystal Globe.

“Weehoo!! We are super stoked about our performance in downhill,” said Mac Marcoux. “It’s great to be back racing with BJ full-time and to get him his first Crystal Globe. We’re looking forward to the last two races of the season!”

On the ladies’ side, Alana Ramsay from Calgary, Alta., came away with two fourth-place finishes in the downhill races.

The para athletes will be putting down two super G races tomorrow and Friday. Stay tuned for results from the races.

Oatway currently sits third in the Overall standings with 733 pts, just 36 pts behind Roman Rabl of Autria and 160 points behind Japans Taiki Morii with two races remaining.

Marcouxs currently sit fourth in the Overall Standings, 55 points off a podium spot.
