Racquetball Canada – Winnipeg, May 29, 2017 – Mike Green of Hamilton set two Canadian records at Racquetball Canada’s Canadian Championship with wins in both the Men’s Open Singles and Doubles events.

Green’s win in Saturday’s Men’s Open Singles event is his eleventh Open Men’s Singles championship title, breaking the record he shared with former national team member Sherman Greenfeld of Winnipeg.

Earlier in the week Green won the Men’s Open Doubles event with partner Trevor Webb of Cambridge. This was the tenth time Green has won the open doubles championship title.

The two wins give Green an impressive twenty-one combined singles and doubles Canadian open championship titles, which is the most titles won by any male or female athlete in the history of racquetball in Canada.

In Saturday’s Men’s Open Singles event, Green faced Samuel Murray of Baie-Comeau in a tough match that went to three games. Murray game out strong in the first game, winning 15-12 and looked like he was on his way to victory when he was up 11-6 in the second game. However Green fought back with an incredible eight point run which got him to game point. He was able to keep the momentum to win the second game 15-12. In the tie-breaker Murray was at match point with a score of 10-8, however Green came back and won 12-10 in another intense, well played game.

In Women’s Open Singles, Frédérique Lambert of Montréal won her match against Jennifer Saunders of Winnipeg, 15-7, 15-8. This is Lambert’s second Women’s Open Singles championship title. Saunders won a silver medal earlier in the tournament in Women’s Open Doubles with partner Danielle Drury of Saskatoon.

Tim Landeryou of Calgary defeated James Landeryou of Saskatoon, 15-6, 15-10 to win the Men’s Open Singles bronze medal.

Christine Richardson of Winnipeg defeated Michèle Morissette of Baie-Comeau to win bronze in the Women’s Open Singles event. Richardson and Morissette had teamed up earlier in the week to win the Women’s Open Doubles event.

The Canadian Championships took place in Brossard, QC from May 22 to 27.  The event includes several age and skill events.  The tournament provides an excellent high performance and competition for life opportunity for Canadian athletes.  There are 110 athletes from 10 provinces participating in the 2017 Championship event.
