Volleyball Canada – May 04, 2016: The 2016 Volleyball Canada Championships are about to begin in Halifax, Ottawa and Edmonton this coming weekend.

The 14U Championship (Atlantic and East) are held in Halifax and Ottawa respectively, while Edmonton hosts at true national championships for 17/18 U girls at the Saville Community Sports Centre, May 5 to 8.

A total of 915 teams are registered in all the Championship events throughout the month of May. This coming weekend will see 88 17U teams and 92 18U teams in Edmonton; 16 boys and 64 girls teams in Ottawa, and 32 teams in Halifax.

“We’re excited that 2016 will have the highest number of teams at a Volleyball Canada Championships so far,” said Sandra de Graaff, Volleyball Canada’s Director of Domestic Competition. “We’re looking forward to witnessing some great matches over the month of May and we hope all competitors have a memorable experience. Thank you to all our partners and sponsors for joining us this year at the VC Championships.”

It’s also the national competition debut of the new Volleyball Canada ball.  The official ball, developed by Tachikara and appropriately named the SIX.VC, features a six-panel design and a textured D-TEC micro-fiber composite cover in highly contrasting colors. Watch for it in action across the country.

Unlike 2015, which was a year that the Volleyball Canada Championship was held in one city, this year and 2017 will see the youth tournaments in various locations across the country.  All host cities went through a bidding process, and were chosen for meeting the criteria set out by Volleyball Canada.  In 2018, Edmonton will host the next Championship to be held in one location.
