Institut national du sport du Québec  – Montreal, September 7, 2016 – With the opening today of the XVth summer Paralympic Games, the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) is proud to support 35 Team Canada athletes as they prepare to compete. These athletes represent 92% of Quebec athletes who are members of the 164-athlete delegation.

Hailing from nine different sports, these Paralympians were able to make use of cutting edge facilities and equipment, as well as professional, technical and technological INS Québec resources. Athletes competing in boccia, cycling, swimming, goalball, judo and fencing have had regular access to INS Québec’s high performance complex.

Furthermore, the national boccia team is now able to enjoy its own training area within the Complex. This space, which meets international competition standards, is the first devoted to the national team for high performance training purposes. The team’s addition to the Complex has also made it easier for the athletes to have access to personalized sports-medicine services adapted to their needs.

Our experts in physiology, biomechanics and physical training have also provided support to swimmers with their preparations, in optimizing their movements, and with their training throughout the Olympic cycle.

INS Québec, whose core mission involves research and innovation, works among other things, toward facilitating access to services dedicated to its paralymic athletes. In providing integrated services that are comparable to the best practices in the world, athletes and coaches can thus compete on equal terms with the best in the world.

INS Québec is also a member of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute (COPSI) Network. This network, which includes four institutes and three centres, supports high-performance athletes and their coaches by providing essential services in the pursuit of athletic and personal excellence. Seventy-five percent of Team Canada’s athletes participating in the Rio Paralympic Games received support and training from the COPSI Network.

To learn more about INS Québec’s services or for media interviews, a list of experts is available on our website.
