Synchro Canada – Calgary, April 28,  2016Halle Pratt, from the Calgary Aquabelles, won gold in the junior solo event today at the Shiseido Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming Championships held at Talisman Centre in Calgary.

Pratt, also last year’s national champion, improved on her preliminary routine marks by 2 points to capture gold with a combined score of 161.5540.  Andrée-Anne Côté, from Québec Excellence Synchro, claimed silver with 159.5537.   Emily Armstrong followed at 157.3330 and, as a Regional Training Centre – Ontario entry, will share her bronze medal with Calgary Aquabelles club member Cassandra Winkelaar, who finished with a score of 152.6043.

Junior Duet Preliminaries
In the junior duet event, Andrée-Anne Côté and Camille Fiola-Dion, from Quebec Excellence Synchro, delivered a strong routine performance to take the lead after the preliminary round with a combined score of 154.6098.  Maude Jobin and Charlotte Maheu-Savard, from Montréal Synchro, are in second position with 146.6160 while Taylor Laing and Natalie Neufeld, from the Calgary Aquabelles, are in third with 145.2130, with 5 teams following within a point of third place.

In open international competition, 2 junior duets from the Mexican Junior National Team delivered energetic performances to receive very close scores of 151.7748 for Glenda Inzunza and Madison Lopez and 151.6795 for Karla Gomez and Ana Soto.

The finals will be held on Friday morning at 9:50.

Combo preliminaries
In the preliminary free combo preliminary round, the Mexican Junior National Team wowed the crowd in international competition and was awarded a score of 81.5000.

Montreal Synchro took the lead in national competition with their far west routine that earned them a score of 78.8667 from the judges.  The Aquabelles, swimming to an Olympic-themed routine, are in second position with 77.6000 while Quebec Excellence Synchro‘s Star Wars routine was awarded 74.5333, good for third place.

Competition continues tomorrow and until Saturday.  Tickets are available at the door for $12 per day.
