Volleyball Canada  – June 18, 2017: In the Netherlands today, Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, ON) and Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) just missed the podium after a 2-1 (16-21, 21-13, 15-11) loss to Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda “Duda” Santos Lisboa.

“Fourth is always super disappointing, to miss out on two medal opportunities stings a lot but at the same time is motivating to get back on that podium,” said Humana- Paredes. “Making another semis is exciting and something to be happy about. There is still a lot to learn.”

The Canadian team started the season with a silver medal at the 4 Star event in Rio last month, losing the gold-medal match to the same Brazilan pair.

Also this week in the Netherlands, Brandie Wilkerson (Toronto, ON) and Heather Bansley (Waterdown, ON) lost to Pavan/Bansley in the quarter-finals to finish with a respectable fifth ranking. Kristina May/Taylor Pischke were 17th.

On the men’s side, Sam Pedlow (Barrie, ON) and Sam Schachter (Richmond Hill, ON) were also fifth overall; while Mike Plantinga/Grant O’Gorman finished 17th.

Men’s gold went to Russia, and another Brazilian pair won the women’s event.
