Diving Plongeon Canada – KIEV, Ukraine – Cedric Fofana of Quebec City took 12th spot Wednesday in the men’s one-metre final in the 14-15 age group at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships.

Daoyi Long of China won the gold medal, Tyler Downs of the U.S. was second and Osmar Olvera Ibarra of Mexico was third.
Fofana was seventh in the morning preliminaries but couldn’t regain his touch in the final.

‘’For sure I’m disappointed because my training had been going well,’’ he said. ‘’I’m not sure whether it was stress, fatigue or something else that affected me in the final.’’

On women’s three-metre in the 16-18 age group, it was a 1-2 Chinese finish with Shan Lin first and Tong Ma second. Alysha Koloi of Australia was third.

Both Canadians were eliminated in the preliminaries. Mia Vallée of Beaconsfield, Que., was 17th and Margo Erlam of Calgary 23rd.

Vallée is on the comeback trail after an injury.

‘’Honestly I’m not that disappointed,’’ she said. ‘’I’ve only been back training for five months and wasn’t suppose to make it here. I was pleased to get this experience at such a high level.’’

Competition runs through to Sunday.
